About

My friends and I have always grown up with the love of reading and learning through stories. With my own interest in reading and participation within the library’s programs, I wanted to find a project with the aim of helping a cause that I am passionate about. Since I have joined the Teen Advisory Group (TAG), there had been discussion over revamping the Teen Area to maximize the potential it has for a safe place catered towards kids my age. I wanted to take on that project while doing something a little more.

The Gold Award is the highest achievement that a Girl Scout can receive and requires a great deal of planning as it is needs to be sustainable beyond my involvement and have a national or global link. My Gold Award will be sustained as it will be utilized by future members of the TAG at the Nesmith Library. The goal is that this website will be used to document and display the events or ideas of TAG, ultimately highlighting the importance of libraries as a whole. Reading is extremely beneficial, and in a comfortable environment, young kids can develop a disposition for reading and newfound admiration for it; reading will become a hobby and not a chore. The Nesmith Library is a community that emphasizes outreach and furthering horizons, culturing an environment that celebrates social connections and growth.
